Tips For A Healthier Home

Here are a few tips to help you keep a healthier home, increase energy efficiency and help the environment.

Keep Heat In:

The average New Zealand home is 5°c colder than it should be.  Close your curtains when the sun is going down and insulate your home.

Air Your Home

Open windows on fine days.  A dry house heats quicker, so don't keep it locked up and damp, let the wind blow through on those warmer days.

Keep it Clean:

Vacuum regularly and dust with a damp cloth to help with the efficient running of heaters and air conditioning or central heating units.

Remove Steam:

Use extractor fans in the kitchen and bathroom to keep the house drier for quicker heating.

The World Health Organisation recommends the inside temperature of a house to be 21°c.  However, the average ambient temperature in a New Zealander's home is 16°c in winter, which means all New Zealand homes require some sort of heating solution.
